REVELATION 9

The fifth angel’s trumpet

Rev. 9:1  And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw

            [1] a star fall [a fallen angel]

[a.] from heaven [the heavenlies: the earth’s atmosphere]

[11.] unto the earth: and

[2] to him was given the key

[a.] of the bottomless pit [the abyss].

 9:2  And

[3] he opened the bottomless pit [the abyss]; and

            [4] there arose a

[a.] smoke out of the pit,

[b.] as the smoke of a great furnace; and

[5] the sun and the air were darkened

[a.] by reason of the smoke of the pit.

A demonic army is released into the earth

 9:3  And

[1] there came out of the smoke

[a.] locusts upon the earth: and

[2] unto them was given power,

[a.] as the scorpions of the earth have power.

 9:4  And

[3] it was commanded them that they should not hurt

[a.] the grass of the earth [the grass has re-grown from Rev. 8:7],

                        [b.] neither any green thing,

[c.] neither any tree [the remaining 2/3rd of the trees (c/p. Rev. 8:7)];

[11.] but only those men

[aa.] which have not the seal of God in their foreheads [only the 144,000 men of the twelve tribes of Israel are sealed (Rev. 7:3-4); and only 12,000 of these are Jews from the Tribe of Judah].

9:5  And to them it was given

[1] that they should not kill them,

[2] but that they should be tormented five months: and

[a.] their torment [was] as the torment of a scorpion,

[b.] when he striketh a man.

9:6  And in those days shall men

            [1] seek death, and

[2] shall not find it; and shall

            [3] desire to die, and

[4] death shall flee from them.

The locusts described

9:7  And

[1] the shapes of the locusts [were] like unto

[a.] horses prepared unto battle; and

[2] on their heads [were] as it were

[a.] crowns like gold, and

            [3] their faces [were] as

[a.] the faces of men.

 9:8  And

            [4] they had hair as

[a.] the hair of women, and

            [5] their teeth were as

[a.] [the teeth] of lions.

 9:9  And

[6] they had breastplates, as it were

[a.] breastplates of iron; and

[7] the sound of their wings [was] as the

[a.] sound of chariots of many horses

[11.] running to battle.

 9:10  And

[8] they had tails like unto

[a.] scorpions, and

            [9] there were stings

[a.] in their tails: and

            [10] their power [was]

[a.] to hurt men five months.
