EZEKIEL 38 Pg 3

In the latter days, Gog and his bands shall come against Israel out of the north

 38:14  Therefore, son of man,

            [1] prophesy and

            [2] say unto Gog, Thus saith the Lord GOD;

[a.] In that day when my people of Israel dwelleth safely [Ezek. 38:11],

[11.] shalt thou not know [it]?

38:15  And    [b.] thou shalt come from thy place

[11.] out of the north parts [the land Magog, Rosh, Meshech, Tubal and Togarmah are to the north of Israel (Ezek. 38:6; Ezek. 39:2; c/p. Joel 2:20)],

                                    [11.] thou, and

                                    [12.] many people with thee,

[aa.] all of them riding upon horses,

                                                [bb.] a great company, and

                                                [cc.] a mighty army:

38:16  And    [c.] thou shalt come up against my people of Israel,

                                    [11.] as a cloud [vs. 9] to cover the land;

[aa.] it shall be in the latter days (Ezek. 38:8), and

[d.] I will bring thee against my land,

[11.] that the heathen may know me [this is always God’s purpose in judgment],

[aa.] when I shall be sanctified in thee, O Gog,

[111.] before their eyes [Israel shall see his destruction (c/p. Ps. 91:8)].

38:17  Thus saith the Lord GOD; [Art] thou he of whom I have spoken in old time

[1] by my servants the prophets of Israel,

[a.] which prophesied in those days [many] years

[11.] that I would bring thee against them?

The destruction of the armies of Gog[1]

38:18  And it shall come to pass

[1] at the same time [vs. 10]

[a.] when Gog shall come against the land of Israel,

[11.] saith the Lord GOD, [that]

[2] my fury shall come up in my face.

38:19  For     [a.] in my jealousy [and]

[b.] in the fire of my wrath have I spoken,

[3] Surely in that day there shall be

[a.] a great shaking [a massive earthquake]

[11.] in the land of Israel;

 38:20  So that

[a.] the fishes of the sea, and

[b.] the fowls of the heaven, and

[c.] the beasts of the field, and

[d.] all creeping things that creep upon the earth, and

[e.] all the men that [are] upon the face of the earth,

[11.] shall shake at my presence, and

[f.] the mountains [the mountains of Israel (Ezek. 38:8, Ezek 38:20-21; Ezek. 39:2)]

[11.] shall be thrown down, and

                        [g.] the steep places

[11.] shall fall, and

                        [h.] every wall

[11.] shall fall to the ground.

 38:21  And

[4] I will call for a sword against him [Gog]

[a.] throughout all my mountains [of Israel],

[11.] saith the Lord GOD:

                        [a.] every man's sword

[11.] shall be [against] his brother.

 38:22  And

[5] I will plead against him

                        [a.] with pestilence and

                        [b.] with blood; and

            [6] I will rain

                        [a.] upon him, and

                        [b.] upon his bands, and

[c.] upon the many people that [are] with him,

                                    [11.] an overflowing rain, and

                                    [12.] great hailstones,

                                    [13.] fire, and

                                    [14.] brimstone.

God’s purpose for judgment

  38:23  Thus will I

            [1] magnify myself, and

            [2] sanctify myself; and

                        [a.] I will be known

[11.] in the eyes of many nations [many, not all], and

                        [b.] they shall know that

[11.] I [am] the LORD.

[1] This judgment is similar to but not the same as the judgments on the armies of the Antichrist (c/p. Zechariah , chapters 12 through 14).
